LAURENCE VALLIÉRES
Born in Québec City in 1986, Laurence Vallières is known for the creation of large-scale sculptures out of cardboard. Vallières studied at Concordia University in visual arts before doing an exchange program in Los Angeles to further her knowledge in ceramics.
It’s only after graduation and doing an artist residency in Russia that she appropriated the street art influence in her work. By using cardboard, material that she finds in abundance in the street, she allows herself to create larger than life sculptures on the spot in every part of the world she visits.
Laurence contributed two of her iconic gorilla sculptures to BUNKR Village, one that loomed over the entrance and another situated at Le Marché Central, an indication of her value of community and the development of human relationships. After all, BUNKR was created for the community by the community, a way for us to celebrate one another and the rich culture that’s at the core of the Central District.
