BUNKR, POP-UP VILLAGE IN THE CENTRAL DISTRICT, STATION 16 AND MARCHÉ CENTRAL UNITE TO CELEBRATE THEIR DISTRICT

Montreal, September 8th, 2017 – BUNKR Village, Station 16 and Marché Central form a partnership to celebrate the art of Montreal and the Central District of Ahuntsic-Cartierville.

For two months, artist Laurence Vallières will be providing one of her impressive cardboard gorilla sculptures to be displayed at Marché Central, near Cinema Guzzo. The sculpture will be presented and preserved in a custom-built structure built by the team at Kika Marketing & Communications Inc.

Marché Central connected with Station 16, the people behind all the art present at BUNKR, and expressed their desire to have a “piece” of BUNKR for themselves. The idea was to continue promoting the Central District, this emerging, artistic neighborhood, to create a sense of pride for the area and to provide a place from which the community could draw inspiration.

The gorilla acts as a call to action for passersby to visit BUNKR Village, where there’s an installment of a similar gorilla, also created by Laurence Vallières. This work is one of the many awe-inspiring pieces present at BUNKR, a project sponsored by Marché Central.

“Marché Central is proud to celebrate Chabanel’s talent and culture through BUNKR Village, an open and creative space that reinforces the life, atmosphere and cultural imprint of our neighbourhood!”

Thanks in part to their support, BUNKR has succeeded in achieving this within a short period of time; it validated the project, that it was an excellent idea. Being encouraged and supported by one of the best-known establishments in the neighborhood is important to us.

Marché Central were one of the first to support BUNKR Village,” said Annika Panzini, President of Expérience Collective/DCMTL and Founder of BUNKR. “The project inspired them to have their own art piece; it’s a symbol of our collaboration.”

The Central District is experiencing a renewed popularity as a choice of housing for artists. And since the neighborhood is known as a more commercial or industrial space, this artistic renewal is definitely welcome.

“Seeing two of my sculptures displayed in the neighborhood gives me great satisfaction; they’ve been well received. I’m happy to know that the community appreciates the gorillas as much as I do, they’re some of my favorites.” – Laurence Vallières
